Breast Health Care

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide and the leading cause of death among women in Brazil, but it has a 95% chance of cure when detected early. To assure greater access to early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, awareness, investment and efficient public policies are necessary.

Instituto Natura works to strengthen and expand public policies that assure detection of breast cancer, always in partnership with different sectors of the society. We also invest in constant, quality information to raise awareness and encourage women to take the lead in taking care of their own health.

We invest in research and knowledge production. In partnership with the Abrale Oncology Observatory (Brazilian Lymphoma and Leukemia Association), we launched the Breast Cancer Panorama, which provides updated data on the disease in Brazil according to the Unified Health System (SUS). It is an important tool which facilitates the visualization of data on the disease scenario in the country to support public administrators in making evidence-based decisions.

We support Ligue Câncer (0800 773 1666), a service developed by Instituto Oncoguia which offers free guidance from specialized professionals to cancer patients and their families.

Through this channel, women can access information about their rights and how to obtain an appropriate diagnosis and treatment from anywhere in Brazil.

We believe in information as a tool which can save lives, therefore, we produce and distribute pocket guides on breast health throughout the country.

The Institute believes in the importance of supporting social technologies which expand the access to diagnosis as early as possible, such as active search, diagnostic qualification and patient navigation. In this context, we invested in a pilot project at the Federal University of Goiás which intends to assess a strategy for qualification of primary care for early detection of the disease. Inspired by an initiative in India, which has similar challenges to Brazil in this area, the initiative qualifies community agents, doctors and nurses to carry out clinical exams, provide information and raise awareness about breast cancer.

Natura and Avon Beauty Consultants are a priority audience and also receive informational materials, guidance and assistance to take care of their own health or become spreaders of breast cancer care in their communities.

Instituto Natura believes that health is a pillar for complete well-being and that work on provision of breast cancer care has a positive impact on other aspects of life, and a way to facilitate the human development of all women.
